A new look for business.gov.au

Project role: UI design

Designing a new look and feel to strengthen the user experience

The challenge

business.gov.au required a visual refresh to ensure the site felt modern, credible, and aligned with user expectations for a trustworthy government service. While a library of reusable components already existed, the branding had become outdated. The challenge was to update the design without losing the recognisable identity of the site, and to apply changes consistently across all components to maintain a polished, professional feel.

The solution

The site was fully redesigned with a focus on visual clarity, accessibility, and brand recognition. This included:

  • A refreshed colour palette that felt more contemporary while retaining key brand cues
  • Stricter typography and spacing rules to improve readability and layout consistency
  • A new suite of illustrations derived from an existing library and adapted to fit the brand, alongside guidelines for creating future visuals
  • A redesign of over 70 reusable components to ensure visual cohesion, accessibility compliance, and usability across the site
